Potato Preparation
  • 4 large large potatoes, thinly sliced Use a mandoline slicer for even slices.
Cheese and Cream Mixture
  • 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar or Gruyère) Feel free to experiment with different cheese blends.
  • 2 cups heavy cream Can substitute with half-and-half or a mix of milk and cream.
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Flavorings
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced Cook until fragrant.
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons butter Used to melt with garlic.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat and add the minced garlic, cooking until fragrant.
  3. Stir in the heavy cream, milk, salt, and pepper; heat until warm.
  4. In a greased baking dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes, followed by half of the cheese, and then half of the cream mixture.
  5. Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes, cheese, and cream.
  6. Top with Parmesan cheese.
Baking
  1. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  2. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes or until the top is golden and bubbly.
  3. Let it sit for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

Serve directly from the oven or plate individual servings. Pairs well with a salad or grilled protein. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days.
