Dry Ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour Can substitute with 1:1 gluten-free flour blend or self-rising flour (omit baking powder and salt).
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder For the dough.
  • 1 teaspoon salt
Main Ingredients
  • 6 tablespoons cold butter, cubed Keep it cold for flaky layers; can substitute with vegetable shortening.
  • 1.5 cups shredded cheddar cheese Sharp cheddar gives more flavor; can use half cheddar/half Monterey Jack.
  • 1 cup milk Whole milk or 2% preferred; buttermilk adds tang and tenderness.
Topping
  • 3 tablespoons butter For topping.
  • 0.5 teaspoon garlic powder For topping.
  • 0.5 teaspoon dried parsley For topping.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and position a rack in the center.
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment or lightly grease it.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, garlic powder, and salt.
  4. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs with pea-sized pieces of butter remaining.
  5. Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until evenly distributed.
  6. Pour in the milk and gently fold until a soft dough forms. Avoid overmixing.
  7. Drop spoonfuls of dough or cut into rounds on a floured surface.
Baking
  1. Bake for 12–15 minutes until golden brown.
  2. Melt the butter and stir in garlic powder and parsley.
  3. Brush garlic-parsley butter over the biscuits as soon as they come out of the oven.
  4. Serve warm.

Notes

Use freshly shredded cheese for better melting. Store cooled biscuits in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
