Ingredients

Dry Ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour Spoon into the cup and level for accuracy.
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder Make sure it's fresh.
  • 1 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, very cold and cubed For best results, grate or cube then chill.
  • 3/4 cup whole milk Can substitute with buttermilk or dairy-free options.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt until evenly combined.
  3. Add the cold, cubed butter to the dry mixture and cut the butter in until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs with pea-sized pieces.
  4. Pour in the milk gradually and stir just until the dough comes together; it should be slightly shaggy and a bit sticky.
  5. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and fold it together gently 5-6 times to create layers.
  6. Pat the dough to about ¾ inch thick, then cut biscuits using a 2-3 inch round cutter.
  7. Place cut biscuits on the prepared sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
