Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil Melted
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened creamy peanut butter Natural, unsalted (must NOT contain xylitol)
  • 1/3 cup pumpkin puree Plain pumpkin, not pumpkin pie filling
  • 1 cup oat flour or old-fashioned rolled oats If using rolled oats, pulse to make oat flour

Method

Preparation
  1. Gently melt the coconut oil in a small saucepan over low heat or in short bursts in the microwave until liquid but not hot.
  2. In a mixing bowl, stir the melted coconut oil into the peanut butter until smooth.
  3. Add the pumpkin puree and mix until evenly combined and glossy.
  4. If using rolled oats, pulse them to a flour consistency in a blender or food processor.
  5. Add the oat flour to the wet mixture and stir or beat briefly with a hand mixer until the dough comes together into a soft, slightly sticky ball.
  6. Pinch off pieces and roll into balls about 1 inch for training treats or up to 2 inches for larger rewards.
  7. Place the balls on a parchment-lined tray and press a fork into each treat in a crosshatch pattern for a classic look.
  8. Chill in the refrigerator until firm, about 20-30 minutes. Store chilled.

Notes

Refrigerate in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks. Freeze in a labeled, freezer-safe container for up to 3 months. Inspect treats for mold or off smells before feeding. Always check with a veterinarian for dietary needs.
