Cooking Steps
- Begin by heating the vegetable oil in a large pot over medium heat.
- Once the oil is hot, add the chopped onion and sauté until it becomes golden and fragrant.
- Next, add the meat to the pot and cook until it is browned on all sides.
- Stir in the shredded carrots and let them cook for a few minutes until tender.
- Add the rice to the pot and stir well to combine with the meat and vegetables.
- Pour in the water or broth, then add the cumin, salt, and pepper to taste.
- Place the whole garlic cloves on top of the rice, creating a flavorful layer.
- Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and let it simmer for 20-25 minutes or until the rice is cooked and the liquid has been absorbed.
- Finally, fluff the plov with a fork before serving to blend the ingredients.
Notes
Plov is best served warm and can be accompanied by a fresh salad or some pickled vegetables. A dollop of yogurt makes a fantastic addition, balancing the richness of the plov. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days or freeze in individual portions for longer storage. When reheating, add a splash of water to keep it moist.
