Ingredients

For the Meatballs
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup onion, finely chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
For the Gravy
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons water to create a slurry
For the Mashed Potatoes
  • 2 cups potatoes, peeled and diced
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 tablespoon fresh herbs (like parsley or chives), chopped
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, minced garlic, egg, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix the ingredients well and form them into meatballs.
  2. Heat a skillet over medium heat and brown the meatballs on all sides until they are fully cooked, roughly 8-10 minutes.
  3. Once browned, remove the meatballs and set them aside. In the same skillet, pour in the beef broth and bring it to a simmer.
Making the Gravy
  1. In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch with water to create a slurry, then add it to the simmering broth to thicken the gravy.
  2. Return the meatballs to the skillet, covering them with the thickened gravy. Allow them to simmer together for an additional 5 minutes.
Preparing the Mashed Potatoes
  1. Meanwhile, boil the peeled and diced potatoes in water until tender. Once soft, drain them.
  2. Mash the potatoes with milk, butter, chopped herbs, salt, and pepper until you achieve a creamy texture.
Serving
  1. Serve the flavorful meatballs over the garlic herb mashed potatoes, and enjoy!

Notes

Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. For longer storage, freeze the meatballs and gravy separately for up to three months. Consider adding spices or cheese to the meatball mixture for enhanced flavor.
