Ingredients
  

Dough Ingredients
  • 2 cups warm water Water should be warm but not hot.
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour Can substitute some with whole wheat flour for a different texture.
  • 1 tsp salt
Boiling and Topping Ingredients
  • 1/4 cup baking soda
  • 1 egg beaten for egg wash
  • to taste pretzel salt For topping.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  2. Add the flour and salt, mixing until everything is well combined. Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until it’s smooth.
  3. Let the dough rise in a greased bowl for approximately 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.
Cooking
  1. Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C).
  2. In a large pot, bring 10 cups of water and the baking soda to a boil.
  3. Shape the dough into pretzels and carefully boil each one for about 30 seconds.
  4. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush with the beaten egg, then sprinkle with pretzel salt.
  5. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until they are golden brown.
  6. Serve them warm with your choice of mustard or cheese sauce.

Notes

Store leftover pretzels in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two days or freeze them wrapped in plastic wrap. Rewarm in the oven before serving. Experiment with toppings or shapes for fun variations.
