Ingredients

Dry Ingredients
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
Wet Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk Can substitute with milk mixed with vinegar.
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tbsp melted butter
Coating
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar For coating.
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon For coating.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a donut pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients: flour, 1/2 cup sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and 1/2 tsp cinnamon.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the wet ingredients: buttermilk, egg, and melted butter until smooth.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined; a few streaks are okay.
  5. Fill each donut cavity about 3/4 full with the batter, using a piping bag or zip-top bag for easier filling.
Baking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 10–12 minutes, until donuts spring back when pressed and edges are lightly golden.
Coating
  1. While the donuts are baking, mix 1/4 cup sugar with 1 tsp cinnamon in a shallow bowl.
  2. After baking, let the donuts cool in the pan for 2–3 minutes, then remove them and toss each warm donut in the cinnamon-sugar mixture.
Serving
  1. Serve warm. They’re best enjoyed the day they’re made.
